Best Dressed: The 2014 Emmys

This year's Emmys award show was scheduled during an awkward time. Usually, it takes place after NYFW which gives stylists more options when deciding what to dress their clients in. This left the stylists with either dressing the stars in a look from last season, a resort wear look, or a gown from haute couture week.

Below are my best dressed picks of the night!

Who were some of your favorites from last night's award show?

Allison Williams in Giambattista Valli
Gwen Stefani in Versace
Matt Bomer in Tom Ford
January Jones in Prabal Gurung
Sarah Hyland in Christian Siriano

Lady in Pink

There is nothing like taking the time to get to know your city. I have been downtown so many times but this was the first time I have been to the Detroit Public Library and it was incredible! If you are ever in Detroit you should definitely check it out.

Usually when I think of a library, I think of dusty books and plain white walls, but this library was different! It took my breath away. The murals, the architecture, everything about it was spectacular.

I love exploring historic Detroit... especially when wearing my favorite little pink top from H&M and TopShop skirt. Not going to lie though, exploring would have been a lot easier if I was wearing flats.

As we move into fall I felt that this ensemble would be the perfect way to say goodbye to summer and pay homage to lovely light pink.

Art of Detroit

Last evening I had the pleasure of attending The Art of Detroit at Saks Fifth Avenue in Somerset Mall. The event was in benefit of the College of Creative Studies (CCS).

The evening was wonderful. There was a red carpet as soon as you walked in and models modeling off fabulous designer dresses. Food and drink stations were located all around the store from different restaurants in Detroit. My favorite part of the night was the amazing GIVEAWAYS!! I could not believe some of the prizes consisted of a Prada and Gucci bag (gasp!). The best part of it all . . . ALL proceeds from the sale of tickets went to benefit CCS as well as ten percent of the event's sales!

When deciding what to wear, I knew I could not go wrong with this dress I bought from H&M. I got it last summer when I was in Chicago. The colors on the dress remind me of a painting, which I thought was perfect since artwork by Ben Sharkey, a CCS alumni, was showcased. I paired my dress with these white and black bow tie wedges that I purchased from Tender years back during the Birmingham sidewalk sale (Valentino on sale = score!). I know I have been wearing my Valentino black, studded purse a lot lately but I cannot get enough of it. It is definitely one of my all time favorite/best purchases to date. Totally worth every penny!

I was deciding between two shoes when putting together my outfit. How is a girl supposed to choose between Valentino and Jimmy Choo?! Initially I did go with the Valentino's, as you can see in my shoot pre event haha, but soon after changed into the Jimmy Choo's (pictured below). These Choo's are the most comfortable heels I own.

When in Detroit

This shoot is probably one of my favorites since I started my blog. A few days ago, I gathered a few looks together to shoot with. I originally planned to shoot near my house, but my aunt had the brilliant idea of shooting pictures around Detroit. I know that most people view Detroit in a bad light, but there are so many beautiful landmarks in this city.

This shoot took place outside of the Detroit Institute of Arts. The pictures do not even do this building justice. We took pictures outside of the DIA, but the inside is even more beautiful! I bought this dress online from TopShop last summer because I fell in love with the water colors on it. I am trying to get as many summer looks in as possible- I cannot believe it is almost Fall! Although, Fall is my favorite fashion season!
Hope you all have a fabulous and stylish weekend! Xoxo

Chatting with Lisa Freede

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend the Lisa Freede trunk show at Neiman Marcus in Somerset Mall.

Lisa launched her jewelry line in 2004. The pieces are simple and classic, yet trendy. Her neckalces, bracelets, and earrings are statement pieces that make any outfit pop and are very versatile. Lisa's designs have been worn by the likes of Rihanna, Katy Perry, Jessica Alba, and Bethenny Frankel, just to name a few.

I had the opportunity to chat with Lisa and ask her a few burning questions. Check out the interview below!

Wear Is Chelsea: Lisa, what made you decide to start a jewelry line?
Lisa Freede: I feel that jewelry completes every outfit. Anybody can wear jewelry, you can be tall, short, and I could go on and on and on. I used to be in the clothing business, so I found that the area of jewelry would broaden my horizons and also I'd be able to reach out to so many people. Another concept that I have with jewelry is high quality, on trend at a realistic price point. Most of my jewelry is under one hundred dollars.

WIC: Where do you get your inspiration from when designing pieces?
LF: I tend to grab my inspiration from architecture and geometrics. I like fine clean lines. Basic with a twist is my style.
WIC: I truly love all of your pieces, they are simple yet stylish.
LF: Thank you for recognizing that. That's really important and that is really the core customer. I think that we are able to do that and also take it back to some of the greats, as you can see in some of the leather and chain pieces. Even just a simple bangle with a chunk of baguettes.

WIC: What advice would you give to struggling or up and coming designers?
LF: Don't try to reinvent the wheel. I used to teach at a fashion college in Los Angeles and I remember so many struggling designers wanting to come up with something brand new. Fashion is evolution and so is jewelry, it's perpetual and it goes around. If you sit in a corner in a mall, or in airport, wherever you may be, and you watch a hundred women walk by, you'll see probably eighty pairs of hoops and the rest will be in studs. I'd say keep it simple, keep it clean, and do not try to reinvent something.

WIC: What is next for Lisa Freede?
LF: It's so funny. I am thinking back to my old days with Madonna, and I want to say to conquer the world, but it's just to keep going at the rate that I am going and continue to be a leading brand with Nemain Marcus. I want to continue taking trends and keeping it simple with a little bit of a twist.

I had such a great time chatting with Lisa, seeing all of her fabulous pieces, and learning more about her as a designer.

Same Top, Different Outfit

As I am sure you can tell, I just cannot get enough of this H&M top! The material is so nice and the ruffles all along the sleeves make it so fun. I bought the top and skirt together. They complement each other so well! As I was getting ready to shoot this outfit, I realized that I had forgotten to bring a purse with me to accessorize with. I was at my aunt's house at the time so I rummaged through her closet and found her Fendi Baguette (total Carrie Bradshaw moment)!! The bag is so timeless and classic- I love it.

I also found this vintage Emporio Armani purse in her closet. I am totally obsessed with it. It's very 50s chic! I couldn't decide which bag to shoot the outfit with, the Fendi or the Armani, so I went with both haha! I like how the color of the Emporio Armani purse pops out and adds something extra to the neutral colored look.

I had been looking everywhere for oversized, round shaped sunglasses that were similar to the two toned Chanel ones. Finally, I found these ones while shopping at Nordstrom one day!
